This season marks 30 years of music, comedy, dance and theater at the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts in Clinton Township.
Since opening in 1982 at 44575 Garfield, the Macomb Center has welcomed many of the entertainment industry?s top stars.
?We?ve had from Bill Cosby to Stevie Wonder to Frankie Valli,? said Sandy Hazelton-Pianko, marketing manager at the center. ?Kathy Griffin was here two consecutive years and sold out both years.?
Other performers to take the stage include Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson, Tony Bennett, Regis Philbin, Wayne Newton, The Beach Boys, Paul Anka and Jeff Daniels.
The 30th professional season at the Macomb Center opened last month with Burton Cummings, lead singer of The Guess Who. Hazelton-Pianko said this season?s entertainment will give the public a wide variety of productions.
?Pretty much every weekend through April we have something going on,? she said. ?It?s such a wide range; we really have something for everyone.?
The Capitol Steps made an appearance at the center Oct. 13, entertaining the crowd with skits, impressions and political satire based on their days as senate staffers.
Page to Stage, a theater and literacy program that brings books to life on stage, will perform throughout the season.
?The Osmond Brothers are coming,? Hazelton-Pianko added. ?They?ve been here several times in the past and they?re doing exceptional.?
Because of the variety in productions, she said the center is able to draw large crowds for most of their shows.
?We are so lucky to be supported by Macomb County residents,? she said. ?They know what a gem they have, so when they?re looking for entertainment close to home that is affordable, this is the perfect place to come. People who come to one show often want to come back time and time again.?
And, there?s not a bad seat in the house.
?Every single seat you get a great view of the stage,? Hazelton-Pianko said.
The center also includes a smaller venue for events such as graduations or dance recitals. In addition, the public can rent the venue for events.
Community partners that perform shows at the Macomb Center include All The World?s A Stage, The Macomb Ballet Company, the Warren Symphony Orchestra, the Macomb Symphony Orchestra and the Detroit Concert Choir.
Connected to the Macomb Center is the Lorenzo Cultural Center, which showcases themes related to science, history, literature, visual and performing arts and culture.
